Comparison for 1.42 Hidenao
First print below is the copy found in Weinbergs book "Kuniyoshi The faithful Samurai" by Hotei publsihing.
Things to look for:
A. - Red fabric within the Kimono differs in Weinberg's to all others with the exception of SHG. Additions of red to centre of
A. One would have to assume that the red blocks were cut differently to accommodate extra coverage. You will also notice the red highlights on the tsuba and kashira of the sword handles are missing on all other prints bar SHG.
B. - Small white block patterns within flower leaves on Kimono's differ in Weinberg's to all others bar SHG. Probably easiest to detect (on the poor quality pictures below) where I have highlighted.
C. - Last Character of the text differs in Weinberg's to all others, with the exception of SHG and the Edo Tokyo Museum (TM) example, which appears to be different again .
D. All prints are numbered.
E. - Kimono rack is fairly evenly spaced between the texts, varies in all versions below.

The interesting thing to notice regarding the colours in this print is the colour of the kimono on the left. It appears that in Weinbergs example a yellow/tan was applied to the bottom portion of the kimono, then over that was applied a darker blue, creating a subtle band of green were the two meet (you can see this clearly in the picture top right). Note that the same darker blue colour is applied to Hidenao's sash. The other versions of this kimono show a:

- purple colourant applied with "bokashi" (gradated application of the colourant) which also matches the sash, (examples  Big and R Thom)

- darker blue colourant without the yellow/tan applied (examples CPA and possibly RG and TM though the picture contrast makes it impossible to determine)

Note: Example FA looks to be a poor later reprint with no discernable bokashi applied at all. Possibly originally a blue now faded to a grey similar to RG and TM.
